Knife Roll

Yeah, that's right--I can't cook. It is sort of embarrassing, but I have other skills! Like sewing. I can sew cooking related things. It is just the actual cooking that is the problem.
So it seems like it might be time to figure out this cooking thing, and I'm giving it a try. By "trying" I mostly mean thinking about cooking, and what sort of simple things to make first.
The reasons for my lack of cooking experience are varied. One major hold-up has been a past lack of interest = little to no investment in decent kitchen tools and supplies. Once I started to feel interested, the cooking enigma began to go something like this: "Oh, that looks good! And easy. I can do it! But wait, I don't have the right pan, or the 8 spices in the recipe. Hmmm, where do you even buy those spices??? Nevermind...".

Obviously the first step is to gather some decent cooking tools. These are expensive, so this is slow going. A knife seemed like a good place to start, and I found this very nice knife on sale at Kitchen Kaboodle. It was on sale for around $60, which was about $30 off the regular price.

I think it is a 6" chef knife from the Trident collection, but I don't really know. It is sharp as heck though, and if I just can't get the swing of cooking, perhaps I'll take up knife throwing.
Now that I have the knife, and it was a bit of an investment, I want to make sure it is protected in the drawer. Grand total, I have 3 knives, so it's a bit premature for a knife block. Plus, there is little in the way of counter space, so time to make a knife roll!
It turned out really nice, and it felt good to return to my comfort zone of sewing, while still doing something cooking related.

It is lightly padded with fleece and has three separate pockets. The fabric is this cotton/linen.
