Yesterday afternoon I whipped up a Swatch Book Cover but rounded off the corners. I say whipped up because they really are pretty quick to make, and I sew slow. Some days "I sew slow" should probably just be my general motto.
But back to sewing! First of all, these rounded corners were/were not easy. I wanted to try them because despite my efforts it is still hard to get neatly squared off corners.
If you want to try rounded corners here is what I did:
- Sew through step 5.b.
- Place a quarter (2.5cm diameter coin) in each corner and match the edge of the coin to the seam.
- Trace the curve around the quarter.
- If you are using a 1/4 foot, go back to the regular foot. Sew around each corner, stitching directly on the outline of the coin.
- Trim & notch the corners.
The not-so-easy part is it is a pretty steep curve to sew. I had to sew two of the corners twice to get a fairly neat corner. Then for topstitching I went slow around the curves and use the hand wheel.
I will have two covers to giveaway this weekend. Check back if you'd like to throw your name in the hat!
