Pixie Clutch - Pattern Mod for Pixie Handbag

My desk is a mess and every once in a while I get so tired of it that I clean it up--temporarily.  When I do tidy up a bit I always come across well intentioned but never quite completed projects like this one...turning the Pixie Handbag into a clutch. 

This morning I whipped one up and just as suspected it sure is cute!  To make this use the small pattern pieces and take 1" off the top edge of piece B and then leave the straps off.  Super simple.  By top edge I mean the edge where you gather the fabric and attach it to piece A. 

The fabric used is from Moda's Wonderland by Momo collection.  The print name is Tweedle Dee I believe.

Pretty Pincushions

One of my pincushions has gone missing.  Surely it is buried under a pile of fabric around here, but in the meantime I've been checking out the pincushions on etsy and might just have to purchase one...

Sunday Sales Alerts at True Up

Every Sunday True Up--a blog dedicated to fabric--posts fabric sales from around the internet.  They also very kindly sort them into US, International and Vintage categories.  How sweet is that?   

This week the International post caught my eye because the extremely hard to find paint-by-numbers birds fabric has been found (in Australia) and is even on sale!

Add a Little Lace

Yesterday I came across this vintage lace I've had forever but it has been tucked away out of sight  with a bunch of other trim. Many days I wish my work area was way more tidy, but at the same time putting things away usually means I pretty quickly forgot they even exist.  This clutch was also cut out and interfaced so I went ahead and finished the project. 

It is very easy to add lace or other trim to the flap of the Curvy Clutch.  Just lay the focus fabric flap piece RIGHT side up and pin the lace in place facing in from the edge of the fabric.  Go ahead and either machine or hand baste it firmly in place. Then continue with making the flap. 

DIY Buttons

One day I was searching for "shank buttons" and discovered that you could buy just the shanks and glue flat objects to the front to make your own buttons.  This was a pretty exciting discovery for me!  But then I forgot about it until I saw the button shanks in my favorites and got excited again.  So this morning I ordered some button making supplies.

First some pretty cabochons...

Then I bought some button shanks from Bead Needs. 

Once the supplies arrive I'll will just glue them to the button shanks for some original buttons!

Two New Patterns

 

Cell Phone Case - I've been working on this pattern for quite awhile and finally got the top pocket right.  It has two pleats so it took a few of tries to get it just right.  But it turned out very cute in the end.  There is also a pocket on the back. 

The pattern comes with two sizes.  These can also be sold for a variety of purposes.  I noticed the larger one fits my camera nicely.

Charm School Handbag - This bag is a fun take on the pleats trend.  Just about every day the front page of etsy shows off some very cute pleated bags. 

The handle is sewn separately so you can make the entire bag in one fabric or use a contrasting print or color for the handles for a whole different look. 

There is one interior patch pocket and the bag closes with a magnetic snap.
